ICL Statement on George Floyd from Executive Director Justin Hayes

Like so many people all across this country, we're deeply saddened and outraged by the murder of George Floyd. We stand with those who call out for justice and condemn police brutality.  For too long our country has failed people of color and the disadvantaged. America's original sins of slavery and Native American genocide can only be resolved when we acknowledge them and recognize that our society continues to treat many with a lack of dignity and respect. We understand that for many this creates a lack of opportunity. In this moment of national pain and soul searching, we need to recognize that not all people in the United States have been treated equally. Through our work we will seek to create a society for all people — where the right to freedom, liberty and justice is assured and where all people are treated with dignity.
