YOUTH SALMON PROTECTORS
WHO WE ARE
A program of the Idaho Conservation League, Youth Salmon Protectors is a coalition of young people across the Pacific Northwest dedicated to breaching the four lower Snake River dams and replacing their services to save wild salmon, steelhead, and orca, to honor Tribal Treaties, and to restore the lower Snake River.
The Issue—and Solution
Wild Salmon and Steelhead are Going Extinct
Wild anadromous fish are foundational to our Northwest identity. They sustain our Columbia River Basin ecosystem as keystone species on which over 130 different animals depend. They have been integral to indigenous culture and religion for millennia. They are central to our rafting and ecotourism industries. And yet, due to four unnecessary dams, these fish, and everything they stand for, face extinction. The status quo is not working, and time is running out. We demand bold political leadership to restore ecologically significant, harvestable populations of wild salmon and steelhead to the Snake River Basin.

See us in action.
A Patagonia short film features local Treasure Valley youth, documenting the fight of the Youth Salmon Protectors (YSP). Created in Boise in 2021, YSP has grown to a coalition of over 2,000 people across the Northwest region. The film follows YSP leaders and members in their work advocating for the restoration of wild salmon and steelhead through lower Snake River dam removal.
